Daniel White, MS, LPC

I am a licensed professional counselor working with individual clients at Bergen Counseling Center in downtown Chicago. My areas of specialty include life transitions, self-esteem, men’s issues, relationship problems, trauma, grief and loss, and identity exploration and development. I often work with clients who experience long-standing patterns of interpersonal problems. I enjoy working with clients who often find themselves stuck in place of dissatisfaction in their relationships and are unsure of why or what to do. I often work with clients who experience feelings of depression, anxiety, or shame, or who struggle with intimacy or the ability to express themselves emotionally.

I am a firm believer that no problem exists in a vacuum, and that, as humans, we are creatures of context. Because of this, my approach in working with clients is one in which I strive to see the larger picture—the problems, and the strengths. In my sessions, I invite my clients to make use of the same gentle curiosity to encourage reflection and exploration of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to better understand where their problem comes from, the role it plays in their lives, and what can be done to improve their lives as a whole.

My approach to therapy is eclectic—drawing on humanistic, psychodynamic, and relational approaches to promote integrative change. I’m trained in cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches, but tend tailor my approach to my client’s needs. Through sessions characterized by honesty, patience, and a sense of collaboration, I help clients take specific steps toward their goals, while also encouraging self-love and acceptance.
